Honoring Fred Wilt

A Legacy of Service, Leadership, and Love for the Game

The Fred Wilt Memorial Golf Outing is more than just a tournament—it’s a tribute to one of the most dedicated Kiwanians and community leaders in the history of the Utica Shelby Township Kiwanis Club.

Who was Fred Wilt?

Fred joined our club in July 1969 and quickly became known for his unwavering passion for three things: his family, the game of golf, and Kiwanis. A successful local insurance agent, Fred poured his heart into service, earning numerous honors for his outstanding leadership.

  • President of the Utica Shelby Kiwanis Club in 1974
  • Distinguished President and two-time Distinguished Lt. Governor of Division 3
  • Club Secretary for 10 years, earning distinguished recognition every year
  • Lifetime Kiwanis Member and Hixson Fellow

Fred’s impact went far beyond titles. He helped launch new clubs, grew Key Club membership, and never turned down an opportunity to serve—unless it conflicted with family. That was his one and only exception.

A scratch golfer for over 40 years, Fred was captain of the golf team at Ohio University, a mentor to many golfers, and always quick with encouragement on or off the course. His love for the game—and his community—made naming our annual golf outing in his honor an easy decision after his passing in 1995.

Fred Wilt

  • June 11, 1935 – March 14, 1995
  • Married to Jean in 1958, father of five, grandfather to many
  • Ohio University Graduate and Golf Team Captain (Class of 1958)
  • PTA President, Shelby Township Planning Committee Member

Fred’s legacy lives on through this event, our club, and the many lives he touched. Each swing, each laugh, and each handshake at this outing is a reflection of the spirit he brought to everything he did.
